Financial Controller, Northern Hospice Alliance (1.0 FTE)
We're currently looking for a talented individual to fill this roll:
Financial Controller, Northern Hospice Alliance
The Northern Hospice Alliance incorporates Hospice North Shore, Hibiscus Hospice and Warkworth Wellsford Hospice. Together we provide specialist palliative care services to patients and families living within our respective communities. The Alliance is committed to a forward thinking and innovative approach to service development and collaboration. For that reason our respective Boards of Trustees are committed to the formation of a single operating trust by July 2018. This process and its ongoing implementation requires oversight from a highly skilled and committed finance professional.
About the Role
This role is not for the faint –hearted. The Financial Controller is a new and exciting position that will initially be tasked with working with our Board Finance Committee and two accounting teams to merge our financial entities and align all accounting and finance systems and processes.
On an ongoing basis, the role will lead a small team and have overall responsibility for the day-to-day finance operations of an organisation with an annual operating budget of $17 million and combined assets of $49 million (at June 31 2017). You will ensure that our newly merged entity has systems and procedures in place that are compliant with appropriate standards and regulatory requirements and that an outstanding internal control system is continually developed and adhered to. We aspire to achieve flawless audit reports.
Our Hospices receive revenue through three main channels: a District Health Board contract, Fundraising (donations, events and grants) and a network of 15 second hand retail stores. Each income stream carries stringent requirements for accurate and transparent accountability.
We also manage a significant investment pool derived from our bequest programmes, which is carefully managed to support capital developments, service and professional development and operating deficits.
To ensure that more and more funds are invested in patient and family care, we are looking towards organisational technology enhancement and enablement and see this role taking the lead in the finance space.
This is an extraordinary opportunity for an experienced leader with seven to ten years of accounting and finance experience, ideally beginning in accounting and audit, followed by experience gathering, evaluating, presenting and reporting financial information to executive teams and external stakeholders. You will ideally have experience in a complex not-for-profit.
