Our community palliative care nurses visit patients in their homes and support is just a phone call away - at any time.   Our care extends to those who care for our patients. Professional counselling and practical help are a vital part of our service.   Massage and reflexology are some of the treatments we offer to patients and carers as part of our holistic approach to wellbeing.

Caring for North Rodney

Warkworth Wellsford Hospice aims to empower terminally ill patients to live their last weeks and months as they prefer, and to allow them to die with peace and dignity.

Our professional teams care for people in the North Rodney community, from Puhoi in the south to Mangawhai in the North. Please click here for a map of the area we cover.

Compassionate, family-centred family care can help patients live the last portion of their life in much the same way that they lived the previous stages - supported and surrounded by those they care about.

If you would like help from hospice for yourself or a loved one, you can make a referral here.

Here are some of the ways Warkworth Wellsford Hospice's nurses and family support staff can help you and your loved ones:
  • Specialist care for people with cancer, chronic heart failure, neurological diseases such as motor neurone disease, multiple sclerosis and Parkinson's, renal failure and any other progressive, life-threatening illness.
  • Pain and nausea relief.
  • Counselling for patients and family members.
  • Time out for caregivers.
  • Advice about eligibility for special benefits, and help applying for them.
  • Access to in-patient unit at Hibiscus Coast or North Shore if  needed.
  • Stress relief therapies - massage, manicures, reflexology.
  • Loan of equipment to improve mobility and comfort.
  • Grief support group.
  • Life review, writing cards or creating photo albums for loved ones, helping patients record their memories as therapy or to leave a legacy.

Hospice's aim is not to alter the length of life, but to help patients live as fully as possible in whatever time they have left. Additionally, if a patient's condition unexpectedly improves, they can discontinue hospice care and return to it later if they need to.

The philosophy of hospice is that the end of life is an important stage, every bit as meaningful as those that came before, and as such, it deserves a great deal of effort to make that time as pain-free and dignified as possible.

These businesses and organisations give ongoing support to our Hospice. Please support them in return.
